as a mixed race latina from a family of latin@s of all colors, it really just flat out rankles my hide when people talk about how latin@s are supposed to look one way or another.

we’re as varied as our history forced us to be. we’re black, we’re white, we’re cafe-con-leche, trigueña, jabao, whatever. saying that we all have to look one way is not only racist as fuck but erases the history of slavery and genocide that colors us in more ways than one.

The Akonadi Foundation sponsors a annual contest to encourage a creative outpouring of posters that reflect people in communities of color, their movements to for social change and their vision for a world without racism.
